Photography has changed my life, and I think it could change your life. This blog is all about how finding beauty through photography has the ability to draw you closer to God, and bring you greater peace.
When I was in Basic Training, our cadre often talked about our why, or motivation. The why we joined and why we stay. Often, those two reasons are different and a sign of growth. In most examples, the first motivation is superficial (i.e. free tuition, family member attended, or athletic recruit), but then something happens. The second reason takes over. This new motivation is so powerful that it outweighs all of the negatives we might face and soon it’s no longer a choice to stay, but an imperative.
How Discovering Beauty through Photography became my why
With photography, I started for myself. Life threw some very sour lemons my way. When I felt like I was drowning, photography forced me to slow down, breathe, and count my blessings. In short: photography was my way of finding light in a period of darkness. But, that was over 10 years ago and my motivation has changed. Now, I pick up my camera for you.
One of the greatest compliments I receive is “you captured our personalities perfectly.” Authentically photographing who you are accentuates your natural beauty. In a world full of negativity, I love being a voice of reassurance and confidence.
Somewhere between being a broken shell and now, I found that my camera has the power to illuminate beauty in your world, and more importantly within yourself. With this realization, I feel compelled to show as many people as possible their inherent beauty. Not for my sake, but for yours. Finding beauty through photography is about far more than appearances. Beauty surpasses mere appearances. Beauty acknowledges how you are made in the image and likeness of God. Therefore, you have dignity and worth.

The role of authenticity in artistry
In a recent review, a woman remarked how I made her feel beautiful during our session. She even left feeling beautiful. She went on to state how that is not something she regularly felt. My heart broke to hear her pain, but also convicted me to continue being a photographer.
For myself, it’s easy to look down at the stretch marks or extra pudge and feel remorse. So quickly, I forget the years and years I prayed for the gifts God has given me. I forget that those marks tell the story of a miracle: growing and sustaining life. Maybe one day I’ll easily remember the stretch marks are the beginning of my son’s story, but for now it’s a conscience switch to embrace them as gifts.
From time to time, I also receive other similar feedback from women, and it all distills into the same sentiment: the world makes me doubt myself, but these photos helped me feel confident and at peace with the blessings God placed in my life.
Each little line and wrinkle is a gift
Photography is more than just capturing moments. Photography preserves a legacy. These images allow us to appreciate all of the gifts we have. These moments are fleeting, it is far to easy to miss each little gift. I firmly believe in investing in photography. Quality photos retain the emotions, relationships, and stories our memories may one day struggle to recall.
After being I bullied throughout childhood and even into college. I am far too familiar with the pain of feeling unseen, unloved, and unworthy – all of which are lies we believe far too easily. That’s why giving you the time and space to make you feel loved, confident, and beautiful is my imperative. I know how acutely painful it is when you cannot feel those things. It’s not just about looking pretty, it’s about remembering your dignity and self-worth. In finding beauty through photography, I want to remind you that your worth is determined by God himself, and not of this world.

My Motivation, why, and mission
My photography journey started as a way to heal, but has blossomed into something far more rewarding. Photography is a way to serve you. To remind you of your worth as a son or daughter or God. To authentically capture your personalities and emotions, not purely for appearances. If, through my lens, I allow you to see yourself the way God does, then I have served my purpose. This sentiment is the heart of finding beauty through photography: discover the beauty (and gifts) that have always been there.
