In May, I had the pleasure of photographing a truly special graduation session with Monste, a remarkable young woman who is a first-generation college graduate. As a Las Vegas-based portrait and wedding photographer, I’ve had the honor of capturing many milestones, but Monste’s session was particularly memorable for several reasons.
A Teacher in the Making
Monste recently earned her associate degree and is now setting her sights on a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education. As someone whose mother also worked in education, this field holds a special place in my heart. Monste’s dedication to her studies and her future career was both inspiring and heartfelt, making our time together even more meaningful.
We chose to shoot at the Dry Lake Beds near Boulder City, a location that has quickly become one of my favorites. The expansive, ethereal landscape of the lake beds provides a stunning backdrop that perfectly complements the elegance and significance of graduation portraits. It’s a place where the natural beauty of the environment enhances the celebration of personal achievements.
Our session was timed to capture the end of golden hour and the beginning of blue hour—two of the most enchanting times for lighting. Golden hour, with its soft, warm glow, bathed Monste in a radiant light that highlighted her joyous smile and vibrant personality. As the sun dipped below the horizon and blue hour began, the sky transitioned to rich, deep blues, creating a serene and magical atmosphere that added a touch of sophistication to the portraits.
A Joy-filled Experience
One of the highlights of the session was Monste’s infectious smile and laughter. From the moment we started, her positive energy was evident. She radiated joy and enthusiasm, making the entire experience delightful. Her genuine happiness was not only a pleasure to witness but also a joy to capture. Each frame reflected her excitement and pride in her achievements, and it was a privilege to document these emotions during such a significant moment in her life.
Toasting to the Future
To cap off our session, we celebrated with a pop of champagne. This was a special moment that symbolized not just the end of a successful academic journey but also the beginning of new adventures. Monste’s enthusiasm was infectious, and the champagne pop was the perfect way to mark the occasion. It was a celebratory touch that added an extra layer of excitement and joy to the photos.
As a photographer, it’s moments like these that remind me of why I love what I do. Capturing the essence of such personal achievements and sharing in the celebration of hard-earned milestones is incredibly fulfilling. Monste’s graduation session was more than just a photo shoot—it was a celebration of perseverance, dedication, and the bright future that lies ahead.
