Capturing moments of joy and anticipation is always a privilege, but when it involves close friends, it becomes a cherished memory. Recently, I had the pleasure of photographing the pregnancy announcement for my dear friends Angelo and Monica. We met during golden hour at the Smith Center for the Performing Arts in Las Vegas—a location that perfectly mirrored the excitement and elegance of their announcement.
The Location
The Smith Center, with its striking Neo Art Deco design, provided a stunning backdrop for this special session. The center’s grandeur, added a touch of timeless elegance to the photos. The golden hour light bathed the building in a warm glow, accentuating its intricate architectural details and creating a magical atmosphere for the shoot. The sleek lines and classic motifs of the Smith Center served as a dramatic contrast to the vibrant and playful props Monica had brought along.
Monica, brimming with excitement, had prepared an array of delightful props for the session. From ultrasound photos to a onesie reading “wild baby appeared!” and a Pokémon ball, each item added a unique touch to the announcement. Her creativity didn’t stop there; she also brought little orange footies and a heartwarming sign for their dog, Juno, which had “only child” crossed out and replaced with “big brother.” These props not only highlighted their joy but also incorporated their beloved dog into this new chapter of their lives.
Session Preparation
To capture the essence of the announcement, I utilized the Smith Center’s impressive architecture for wide shots, showcasing its Art Deco splendor against the evening sky. The interplay between the golden hour light and the building’s design created a visually striking contrast. We then ventured across the street to Symphony Park, where the golden hour glow offered a softer, more intimate setting. Here, I focused on tighter shots that beautifully highlighted the couple’s connection and the playful props.
Monica came well-prepared with several poses she wanted to try, and her enthusiasm made the session both smooth and enjoyable. It was heartwarming to witness her and Angelo’s joy as they prepared to welcome their new baby. The session was made even more special by the personal connection I share with them. I’ve had the pleasure of knowing them for a few years now and they work with my husband!
It Takes a Village
As I reflect on this session, I am filled with excitement for Angelo and Monica’s journey into parenthood. It’s a beautiful parallel to my own recent experience of becoming a new parent. Being part of their announcement and capturing their happiness was a deeply fulfilling experience, and I can’t wait to see them embark on this new chapter of their lives. Their joy and anticipation are a reminder of the wonderful moments we share with those we hold dear, and I am truly grateful to have been part of this special occasion.
